31 candidates withdrew in Nagpur

As many 31 candidates today withdrew nominations on the last day of withdrawal for the October 15 Assembly polls in the Nagpur district.

Nagpur city and district Shiv Sena chief Shekhar Sawarbandhe, who is contesting from Nagpur-South, remained in the fray though he quit his party post today and handed over the charge to district vice-president.

"I have not left the party," he said in a statement here.

Seventeen candidates are in the fray in Hingana, where BJP has fielded the new entrant Sameer Meghe against former NCP Minister Ramesh Bang and Kunda Raut of Congress.

Sitting MLA and BJP state president Davendra Fadanvis is among five candidates left in the ring in Nagpur-South-West.
 

Former Union Heavy Industries Minister Subodh Mohite is among 14 candidates including sitting Shiv Sena MLA Ashish Jaiswal and first-time contestant NCP's Amol Deshmukh in Ramtek.

Senior NCP leader and former minister Anil Deshmukh faces challenge from Ashish Deshmukh of BJP and eight others in Katol.
