31 typhus deaths in Mizoram in 4 yrs

At least 31 people died in Mizoram since 2012 due to scrub typhus infected through bites by ticks, according to the record of the state health department.

The record said that 715 people were found to be bitten by scrub typhus carrying ticks across the state during the period of four years.

The highest number of scrub typhus infection was detected in 2012 with 252 infections and also the highest number of deaths at 16 in the same year, the health department record said.

Of the 31 people who died due to the virus, 24 people were from Aizawl district followed by south Mizoram's Lunglei district at four deaths.
