33 candidates file nominations for six Maha Council seats

As many as 33 candidates, including those from major political parties, have filed nomination papers for the May 21 biennial elections to the Maharashtra Legislative Council from six local bodies" constituencies.

Today was the last date of filing nominations, whose scrutiny will take place tomorrow. May 7 is the last date for withdrawal of candidatures.

Thirty-three candidates filed their nominations at the end of the process, according to an official from the state electoral office.

Representatives from 128 local bodies falling under the six constituencies spread over Maharashtra will vote in the elections, he said.

These local bodies consist of 13 zilla parishads, six municipal corporations, 63 nagar parishads, 45 nagar panchayats and one cantonment board. The total number of eligible voters stood at 4,621, the official said.

 

The Shiv Sena candidates have filed nominations in Raigad-Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg (Rajiv Sabale), Narendra Darade (Nashik) and Parbhani-Hingoli (Viplove Bijoria).

The BJP has fielded its nominees in Wardha-Chandrapur- Gadchirol (Ramdas Ambatkar), Osmanabad-Beed-Latur (Suresh Dhas) and Amravati (Pravin Pote).

The Congress candidates are contesting from Parbhani- Hingoli (Suresh Deshmukh), Amravati (Anil Madhogarhia) and Wardha-Chandrapur-Gadchiroli (Indrakumar Balmukund Saraf).

NCP candidates who have filed their nominations are Aniket Tatkare (Raigad-Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg), Shivaji Sahane (Nashik) and Beed-Osmanabad-Latur (Ramesh Karad).

The elections are being held to fill seats which are going to fall vacant following upcoming retirement of six sitting Council members - three from the NCP, two of the BJP and one of the Congress.
