Indian travellers are not afraid to brave extreme col weather as a survey revealed a 34 per cent growth in Indian travellers wanting to visit Iceland.

"There is a 34 per cent increase in the first semester of 2017, compared to the same period of 2016, with September to March being the best season to see the hugely popular Northern Lights," according to data by TripAdvisor.

The data were obtained from users in India to Iceland pages on TripAdvisor, comparing the first semester of 2016 and 2017.

This growth can be attributed to after Bollywood showcased the scenic beauty of Iceland inspiring many Indian travellers to visit the country.

It was followed by the craze behind popular television series 'Game of Thrones', that saw Indian travellers flocking to destinations like Reykjavik in Iceland where it was filmed and reconnect with their favourite characters in the show.

Besides, food and wine, outdoors activities, including kayaking to snowmobiling, snorkelling, hiking and ice climbing and white water rafting, ride on an Icelandic horse, dolphin and whale watching are also attracting Indian travellers to Iceland, the survey added.
