345 new schools set up in Delhi last year

A total of 345 new schools began functioning in the national capital last year but no new higher educational institution was set up in the city during the period.

According to Delhi Government's statistical report released today, the total number of schools in Delhi was 5798 in 2014-15 as compared to 5453 during 2013-14 registering an increase of 345 schools.

"Around 44.13 lakh children were enrolled at different levels during 2014-15 in these schools as compared to 43.86 lakhs during 2013-14. Out of 44.13 lakhs, enrolled students up to senior secondary school level, 23.52 lakhs were boys and 20.61 lakhs were girl students," the report said.
 

Delhi has a total of 208 higher educational institutions including 11 universities, 12 institutions deemed as varsities, 3 institutions of national importance, 85 colleges for general education and 97 colleges for professional education.

The figures were same the last year as well and no new higher educational institution or technical training institute came up in Delhi during 2014-15, the report has revealed.
