Over 35,000 lawyers of state today abstained from judicial work to express solidarity to a day-long pen down strike called by Jharkhand Bar Council in protest against the firing by miscreants in the Jamshedpur Bar Association building on Wednesday last.
JMM leader-cum-contractor Upendra Singh, 56, was shot dead in the incident that took place in the crowded Bar Association building while two of the assailants were caught, badly thrashed and handed over to the police by the people including lawyers following the incident.
The state bar council, which has given call for a day-long pen down strike in support of their demand for adequate security arrangement in and around the court premises across the state, expressed satisfaction over the overwhelming support they received from state-wide.

The district administration of East Singhbhum has assured to look into all the demands of the Jamshedpur Bar Association, which had observed a day-long pen down strike on Wednesday last, including installation of CCTV cameras, Metal Detectors in all the gates, separate entry gates for lawyers and clients following a thorough body checking, he said.
Meanwhile, about a dozen persons including the owner of reputed hotel here were taken into custody for interrogation in connection with the killing of Singh.
The district police today attached the property of the one alleged history-sheeter Akhilesh Singh, who had reportedly conspired the killing of Upendra Singh.
