Nearly 2.5 lakh contractual teachers were on strike since December 3 for their various demand including salary at par with the 6th Pay Commission recommendations and their merger with the regular posts of school education department cadre.

Several rounds of talks were held between the state government and teachers, but no positive conclusion had come out which brought the academic activities to a standstill in the state.

This forced the state government to suspend and terminate teachers, who refused to join their duties as per the state government orders.

"Chief Minister Raman Singh has asked the suspended teachers to join their duties immediately and submit an explanation (over strike) within ten days," a government official said today.

Regarding the terminated teachers, the chief minister said they will have to submit an application to concerned authorities and their termination will be revoked within ten days.

The assistant teacher/teacher should submit their application to the District Collector, whereas lecturers will have to forward their application to Divisional Commissioners.

Within seven days of submission of the application, the termination order would be withdrawn, the official quoted Raman Singh as saying.

Late last night, a delegation led by Rajnandgaon MP Madhusudan Yadav met the Chief Minister and discussed with him the issue of reinstating the suspended teachers, the official said.

According to the official, the chief minister said the government is ready to revoke their suspension.
