35 injured as bus falls from bridge

At least 35 passengers were injured when a roadways bus, in a bid to avoid collision with a truck, fell from a bridge when it was on its way to Delhi, police said today.

The incident took place late last night when the bus, in a bid to avoid collision with a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction, broke the railing Qila bridge and fell from it, Regional Manager, UPSRTC, S K Sharma said.

Local residents immediately rushed to the spot and rescued the passengers trapped inside the bus.

According to ASP Rajeev Malhotra, 35 passengers were injured in the accident of whom nine have been admitted to a district hospital.
 

Condition of five injured, including driver Raspal Singh and conductor Vishnu Swaroop Tiwari, is stated to be serious, he added.

The bus was going from Pilibhit to Delhi and had left old bus station at Bareilly around 10.30 pm yesterday, Sharma said.
