35 nurses to get National Florence Nightingale

Thirty-five nurses from 21 states and union territories will be conferred The National Florence Nightingale Award for their outstanding contribution to improve health sector and combat diseases.

The award, instituted by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, will be presented by President Pranab Mukherjee at a function in Rashtrapati Bhavan on May 12.

The Florence Nightingale Award carries Rs 50,000 cash, a certificate, a citation certificate and a medal.

May 12 is observed as International Nurses Day all over the world to commemorate the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, who was born this day in 1820.
