A 35-year-old man was shot dead by two scooter-borne armed assailants when he was travelling with his family in a car near Inderlok Metro Station in North Delhi here this afternoon.

The initial investigations revealed that the deceased was a witness in a case of murder and police suspect it to be case of revenge killing.

The incident took place around 2:30 PM when the deceased, identified as Sundar was traveling with his mother, wife and children in his car when two men waylaid them near Inderlok Metro Station and fired several shots on him from close range.

"He received five to six bullets on his abdomen, head and other parts of the body and died on the spot. The attackers fired only on him and everybody else escaped unhurt in the incident," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Madhur Verma.

"His family has told us that he was a witness in a case and was returning after giving evidence in a murder case. It is a suspected case of revenge killing, we are verifying the facts," he added.

The attackers had come on an Activa and fled the scene after raining bullets on Sundar. Police have registered a case of murder and further investigations are underway.

Body has been sent for post-mortem and police are gathering details about the purported court case and the people who might have wanted to eliminate Sundar.

In a similar incident on Thursday, two persons including a man who was a witness in case at Tis Hazari court were shot dead by unidentified gunmen in broad daylight at Central Delhi's Rajender Nagar. Police is yet to make any arrests in this case.
