In a freak accident, a man died while parasailing on the Mandarmani sea beach in East Midnapore district, a police official said.
The incident happened yesterday when 35-year-old Tarun Ghosh's parachute blew off and hit a lamp post and uprooted it, following which Ghosh fell on the ground and was badly injured, the official said.
"Yesterday was quite windy and it was raining heavily also. Despite such situation, Ghosh chose to take the ride. But the parachute was blown off the track and got wrapped around a lamp post which was eventually uprooted along with Ghosh and he fell in a severely injured condition," the official said.

Police have been directed to check whether the company, running the parasailing service, had the permission from the administration, East Midnapore district SP Alok Rajoria told PTI when contacted.
"The IO (investigating officer) has already been instructed to conduct an inquiry into the matter. We are also checking (if) the company has proper papers to run the service or not," Rajoria said.
On whether Ghosh's family has lodged any complaint with the police, he said, "We are yet to receive any complaint from his family. We have requested them to lodge a complaint which we will treat as an FIR."
All such adventure sports in the district have been stopped "for the time being", Rajoria said.
