Over 350 fresh recruits were today inducted into army's Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI) Regiment at a passing out parade held here.

The 356 recruits, hailing from the state, were inducted into the regiment after a training of 49 weeks in various activities including tactics, firing, physical fitness and mental robustness, at the regimental centre on the outskirts of Srinagar city, a regiment spokesperson said.

The parade was reviewed by Commandant, JAKLI Regimental Centre, Brigadier Pankaj Sinha and was attended by parents and family members of the recruits along with civil and military officers.

Sinha congratulated the young soldiers for the immaculate parade and urged them to devote their life in service of the nation.

The recruits took oath to serve the cause of the nation and were ushered into the life of soldiering.

JAKLI was raised out of volunteers, who rallied to the call of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and other local leaders to thwart the attack of tribals in the state in 1947-48, the spokesperson said.

The regiment is the youngest and one of the most decorated in the Army. The achievements include one Param Vir Chakra, two Ashok Chakras, one Padma Bhushan and a host of other gallantry awards, he added.
