Replying to a question in the Lok Sabha, minister of State for Labour and Employment Kodikunnil Suresh said as many as 297 cases of noise induced hearing loss were recorded in West Bengal.
Five cases of noise induced hearing loss were reported from Maharashtra and Gujarat, he said.
The minister said 34 cases of Silicosis were reported from West Bengal while two similar cases had been found in Gujarat.
Gujarat also recorded seven cases of deafness and six of Byssinosis, he said.
In response to another question, the minister said there were 2.9 crore educated and 89 lakh uneducated job-seekers in the country as on December 31, 2009.
