The children, aged between five and 14 years and belonging to villages of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, were rescued in a joint operation led by the sub-divisional magistrate, Geeta Colony, police, officials of Labour department and activists of Bachpan Bachao Andolan, a BBA release said.

BBA received information that a large number of children had been trafficked and were forced to work in some zari and stitching workshops in the area.

The child rights organisation lodged a formal complaint to the authorities and action was taken.

"The most shocking fact of today's incident was that these trafficked children were rescued from a building where the political office of Delhi's Education Minister is situated," BBA founder Kailash Satyarthi claimed.
