37 qunitals of poppy husk seized, 2 held

Police arrested two persons involved in drug trafficking and seized 37 quintals of poppy husk worth Rs 75 lakh, here today.

Acting on a tip off, a truck was stopped at Sular Gharat here and a consignment of poppy husk was found to be hidden along with onions, Sangrur SSP Mandeep Singh Sidhu said, adding that Nirmal Singh and Gaganjit Singh were arrested immediately.

Acting on the information revealed during interrogations, a team of Ludhiana police raided the house of an NRI in Ludhiana and recovered 5.4 quintals of poppy husk, he said.

The residence of the NRI, identified as Jasvir Singh, was used to store consignments brought from Rajasthan for supplying to other states, the SSP said, adding that the main accused, Raghubir Singh managed to flee.
