Police today claimed to have solved the murder of five members of a family with the arrest of a 37-year-old man who lived in the same locality.
Early last night, Laltlanchhuaha of Republic Veng locality stabbed five people to death after entering their house in the same area, Aizawl Superintendent of Police C Laldina told PTI.
"He demanded a large amount of money from the owner of the house, Sangliansiama (57) who gave the former Rs 1000. Laltlanchhuaha stabbed him to death after the latter refused to give him more money," the SP said, adding, the accused then went on killing other people in the house, including Isaac Lalrinnunga (5), son of Sangliansiama.

The victims included Sangliansiama's wife Khualthangi (57), his sister Vanlalchhungi and Samuel Lalrinchhana (14), a close relative living with them, he said.
The accused has been arrested by the police, the SP said, adding, the earlier reports had said the three to five people had committed the murder.
Sources close to the accused's family claimed that Laltlanchhuaha was in an inebriated condition while committing the crime.
Thousands of people today accorded a tearful funeral to the five deceased.
