38 injured in attack by poisonous wasps

As many as 38 persons, including two children, were today injured when poisonous wasps (Kathandu) attacked them near Porayar in Nagapattinam district.

A large number of workers were engaged in a work under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme at Eduthukatti village, when a swarm of poisonous wasps from a hive in a tree attacked them, revenue department officials said.

The injured were admitted to Porayar government hospital. One child was sent to Nagapattinam GH for further treatment, they said.

Nagapattinam District Collector T Munusamy and other officials visited the injured.

The injured were recovering fast and being monitored round-the-clock by a medical team, the Collector said.
