39 students hospitalised after suspected food poisoning

More than 39 students of a government-run middle school in Begamganj tehsil today fell ill after consuming food under the mid-day meal scheme.

"Thirty nine students have been admitted for treatment so far. Some more students who also fell ill are en-route the civil hospital in Begamganj," Block Medical Officer (BMO) Dr Somand Das said.

According to the victims, eight hours after consuming food under the mid-day meal, they fell sick and started vomiting and also complained about frequent bowel movements, uneasiness and colic.

Talking to PTI, acting headmaster of the middle school, Girdharilal Sahu said, "As usual, we served iron pills to children besides puri with cooked potato dish and kheer (a sweet dish made of rice and milk) as part of the midday meal. But I don't know what went wrong."
 

Block Education Officer Rajesh Invati said they would collect the food samples and send them for testing.
