A 39-year-old brain dead woman has given a fresh lease of life to five persons by donating her organs.

One of the kidneys of Anitha was transplanted to a patient at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital here.

Her second kidney and liver were transplanted to patients at Malabar Institute of Medical Science here (MIMS).

Both eyes of the woman were donated to the eye bank of the medical college, a press release from MIMS said today.

Anitha was hit by a motorcycle on May 11 when she was returning home from a ration shop at Kuruvangad. The woman, who had suffered head injuries, was taken to a nearby hospital and later to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, from where again shifted to MIMS.

She was declared brain dead at MIMS early this morning and her husband and relatives signed the willingness to donate all her organs.
