The 39th Kolkata Book Fair is set to turn green with National Jute Board and the Publishers and Booksellers Guild entering in a tie-up to promote jute and jute products at the venue.

"This is to restrict use of plastic bags. We want to make people aware of the benefits of using jute products because they are biodegradable and eco-friendly.

"Such initiatives help in creating a greener and cleaner world and a book fair is the biggest platform for promotion of jute products," Deputy Jute Commissioner and Secretary National Jute Board, Dipankar Mahto told reporters here today.

Designer jute bags priced between Rs 15 to Rs 35 each, would be sold from 8 kiosks spread across the fair venue and the National Jute Board stall at the Milan Mela ground.

A jingle in Bengali and Hindi has also been created for promotion of jute in the Fair, he said.

The 39th edition of Kolkata Book Fair would commence from January 28 and continue till February 8.
