Four persons were arrested today for allegedly abducting a man and demanding Rs 20 lakh as ransom for his release, police said.
Police received a complaint on Sunday from one Rao Abdul Javed Khan, resident of Panchkula, that his nephew Jakir Hussain (50) of Khwajali Kalan, Gurgaon was kidnapped from the area of Dasuya and Mukerian by some unidentified persons, Hoshiarpur SSP Harcharan Singh Bhullar said.
Hussain was held captive at Lalpur village and a ransom call from an unknown person demanding Rs 20 lakh for freeing him was received by Khan, he said.

A case under sections 364 of the IPC was registered in this regard, the SSP said.
Bhullar said special teams were dispatched to trace the victim.
While checking in the area of Bassi Wajid village, police stopped a vehicle coming from Haroli and asked its occupants to disclose their identity. The fifth occupant identified himself as Hussain and said he was held captive by other occupants of the car, following which they were arrested, the SSP said.
Jakir said the accused used to beat him and were demanding Rs 20 lakh from his family for his release, he said.
Khan and Hussain were selling herbal oil for joint pain in Dasuya and Mukerian area.
