4 arrested for stealing high-voltage transmission lines

Four persons have been arrested for stealing high-voltage transmission lines from different parts of NCR and Uttar Pradesh, police said today.

Police said the accused -- identified as Firoz, Yogendra and Mohit (all natives of Hapur district), and Chotu alias Surendra of Bulandshahr -- were arrested from near Swaran Jayanti Puram following a tip-off.

Senior Superintendent of Police Deepak Kumar Singh said the arrested were part of an inter-state gang involved in stealing of high-voltage electricity transmission lines in NCR and Uttar Pradesh and that they used to target colonies under construction.

Aluminum wires worth Rs 70,000 were seized from them.
 

Two country-made pistols and cartridge were also seized, the police officer said, adding that they have been sent to jail.
