4 children die after portion of ground caves in at a mine

Four children died today after a portion of ground caved in at a mine here burying them under a mound of earth, police said.

The incident occurred this afternoon when the children had gone to dig out the soil from the mine in forest area adjoining the village, Khalwa Police Station in charge B S Chouhan said.

He said the deceased have been identified as Somwati (8), Santosh (14), Anil (12) and Sushil (8).

All the children are residents of Sonpura village.

The rescue team rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies from under the mound of soil, he added.
 

"A group of villagers had gone to fetch the soil from the site when the ground suddenly caved in trapping four children under a mound following which they died," Forest Ranger Uttam Singh said.
