4 children feared drowned in Alaknanda

Four children feared drowned in Alaknanda river when a ropeway trolley, in which they were crossing the river, upended in Joshimath area in Uttarakhand, a senior official said.

Joshimath Deputy District Magistrate A K Nautiyal said the incident occurred in Benakuli village along Rishikesh- Badrinath National Highway.

The ropeway trolley was installed by PWD to cross the river for construction work, he said.

The search operation led by State Disaster Response Force has been launched after the incident occurred at around 7.45 pm, Nautiyal said.
