Four constables were today held for allegedly helping a drug peddler dealing with sale of cannabis, police said.

Newly recruited constables Saed Miraj Khan, Devendra Choudhary, Kirshna Kapsa and Kanak Pandey posted at Chandia police station were caught red-handed while helping drug peddler Ashok Sahu, a resident of Balmana village, SP Chandra Shekhar Solanki told PTI.

Cash of Rs 32,000 and over 4 kg of 'ganja' was seized from their possession, Solanki said.

He said that the policemen first caught Sahu with the drug at his shop but let him off after taking a bribe of Rs 32,000.

But before they could return the 'ganja', the SP reached the spot on a tip off and arrested them with the contraband at Patarahatha village.

The officer said Sahu fled from the spot and a hunt has been launched to nab him.

He said that all the four have been suspended and were booked under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act and Control Narcotic Substance Act.

Sahu too has been booked under the Control of Narcotics Substance Act.
