4-day Kayaking championship in Wayanad from July 23

Nearly 80 paddlers, including internationals such as triple World Champion Sam Sutton of New Zealand, would take part in Malabar River Festival being held in Thusharagir in Kerala's Wayanad District from July 23 to 26.

Besides Sutton, Joe Marley, Lee Royally and Clarkson King (UK), Max Bentton (Italy), Jan Hanning Wiel (Germany), and India's Bhupendra Singh Rana would be among the participants in the adventure sport, Kerala Kayaking Academy Chairman V D Joseph told reporters here today.

The event, billed as Asia's biggest White Water festival, was aimed at promoting the sport of White Water Kayaking in South India and display the incredible and scenic rivers that Kerala has to offer to international paddling community, he said.
 

The event, jointly organised by District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) in collaboration with the Kerala Kayaking Academy and Madras Fun Tools, will be flagged off on July 23 in Kuttiyadi river in Chakkitapara.

Kerala Tourism Minister A K Anilkumar would officially inaugurate the competitions on July 25.
