An aviation official in the West African nation of Ghana said at least four people are dead after a helicopter crash.

Albert Taylor with the Civil Aviation Authority told journalists that the helicopter was carrying eight people three foreigners and five Ghanaians.

He said three survivors were rescued and one person is missing.

Officials said the helicopter was headed yesterday to an offshore oil field. The occupants were going to work for the Russian oil company Lukoil.

Ghana began pumping oil from its Jubilee field in 2010.

Already rich in gold and cocoa, Ghana is one of the most stable countries in Africa, but many of its 25 million people remain in poverty.
