A Swift with five persons inside ran into a Volvo near Kalyangadh village in Bagodara tehsil of Ahmedabad district, police said.

The car got mangled beyond recognition, the police said. The deceased were identified as Gela Algotar (30), Ravat Rabari (20), Devkaran Algotar (32) and Jiga Parmar (20).

"These four and a young man called Sandeep, who was injured, were residents of Than in Surendranagar and were headed back to their hometown from Ahmedabad. The impact was such that all the four died on the spot. Sandeep is now admitted to a hospital in Bavla," said a police official.

The highway stretch near Kalyangadh was undergoing repairs, so one lane was closed to the traffic. "This might have left no space for the car to dodge the oncoming bus," the officer added. A case of rash driving has been lodged against the bus driver.
