4 dead in gas cylinder explosion caused by fire at Pune hotel

Four workers were killed and two others were injured after a gas cylinders at a hotel in Kothrud area exploded when a fire which started at the adjoining mattress manufacturing unit spread this evening.

A spark emitted during a welding work in a tin shed housing a mattress manufacturing unit in Bhusari colony ignited the stored cotton, police said.

It spread to the hotel located in front of the mattress manufacturing unit causing the gas cylinders to explode killing four person employed there, they said.

The four hotel employees killed in the explosion hailed from Bihar and Rajasthan, but their identity was yet to be ascertained, police said, adding the injured were rushed to the hospital.

Meanwhile, Tata Motors in a statement said the fire

incident will not have any impact on the production of its latest car.

"A fire broke out at one of our vendor M/S Supreme Treaves, our supplier partner of trim parts for the Nano in the vendor park. The fire is under control now and no injuries were reported," the company said in the statement.

"We are ascertaining the extent of damage. This has no impact on the Tiago production," it said.
