Four men have been arrested for allegedly duping unemployed youth of money by offering them contractual jobs in Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), banks and hospitals, police said.

The accused have allegedly cheated more than 2,000 unemployed youth of over Rs 50 lakh in the past two years, they said.

The accused used to open a fake placement agency for a temporary period and offer contractual jobs.

They used to advertise about jobs by pasting posters at public places and on Metro pillars. They collected Rs 2,250 as processing fee from each candidate, police said.

After collecting money from hundreds of job seekers, the gang members used to shut down their office and change their mobile numbers, they said.

Then they used to open a fresh placement agency in a different name and style and a different address to continue their illegal activities, a police officer said.

The accused are identified as Virender Singh Kadian aka Langada, Suraj Kumar, Amit Kumar and Kanhaiya Gupta and were arrested when they were planning to open a placement agency in Uttam Nagar.

Fifteen mobile phones, fake identity cards along with cash and jewellery were recovered from them.

The arrests came following investigation into a cheating case filed at the Moti Nagar police station by a group of unemployed youth who were cheated in the name of employment.

"The victims had seen advertisements about the placement agency on posters at public places and Metro pillars. They were lured to attend the agency's office in Moti Nagar where they underwent an interview and paid money for securing employment," a senior police officer said.

After some time when the candidates went to the same address to enquire about the status of their applications, they found that the agency office did not exist and mobile phone numbers given to them were switched off.
