Four persons have been arrested for allegedly running a betting racket in the Walled City, police said today.

Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Zaffar Abbas (40), Mohd Saud (20), Mohd Rohid Alam (20) and Mohd Rafique (23) in the intervening night of Thursday-Friday and recovered 11 mobile phones, two laptops installed with specific betting software, Rs 30,935 cash and several writing slips.

"A tip-off was received that a betting racket is being run from Farashkhana in Hauz Qazi area. Subsequently, a raid was conducted and all the four were caught," DCP (Central) Alok Kumar said.

During interrogation, the accused told police that they were active in the area for the last few days.

"The four accused also said they frequently change the location to avoid police. While Abbas was the cashier, who collected money from the public to place bets on particular numbers, Rohid would upload the betting details in the software on his laptop," said Kumar.

The two others would engage in writing slips and give a copy of placed bets to punters, police said.
