4 held for selling stolen mobiles after changing IMEI code

Four persons have been arrested here for allegedly selling stolen mobile phones after changing their unique international mobile equipment identity (IMEI) numbers, police said today.

The accused were arrested on a tip-off by the Crime Branch team from a shop at Gaur Plaza in Shalimar Garden of Sahibabad, officials said.

The accused have been identified as Gulfam, Nasir, Amir and Aabid, all native of Pasonda and Shaheed Nagar colony, under Sahibabad police station area, Superintendent of Police (Crime) Brijesh Kumar Singh said.

The Crime Branch team seized a software used to change the IMEI code of stolen mobiles.

The head of the gang, Gulfam, confessed that he used to purchase stolen mobile phones from pick-pockets and snatchers at throw-away prices and thereafter change their IMEI codes and reset them to factory settings with help of the software, the SP said.
 

The Crime Branch also seized 146 mobiles, two computer LED screens, two hard disks, four changer keys, 7 IMEI number changed mobiles from their possession, Singh said.
