4 held for trying to extort Rs 50-L from bizman

Delhi Police have arrested four persons, including the maid servant of a city-based businessman, for allegedly trying to extort Rs 50 lakh from him.

According to police, Satish (37), Amit Kumar (30), Sunil Kumar (30) and the maid servant, who was working for the businessman for the last 10 years, were arrested yesterday. Two of the accused were nabbed from Kusumpur Pahari in south Delhi, they added.

Police said that an investigation was launched after the businessman lodged a complaint that he had received an extortion call demanding Rs 50 lakh. The complainant said that the caller had threatened to harm him and his family if the money was not paid.
 

After a case was registered at Vasant Vihar police station on March 11, electronic surveillance was started on the number from which extortion calls were made to the complainant's mobile, a senior officer said.

Polcie found that the calls were being made from a PCO booth in Noida whereupon they asked the complainant to negotiate with the callers.

On April 8, when the complainant received a call from the alleged extortionists, he negotiated with them to accept Rs 5 lakh the next day as the first instalment on the payment demanded by them, police said.

The callers instructed the businessman to deliver the amount of at a pre-decided location.

Policemen in plainclothes were thereafter deployed at the location named by the accused and, when Satish reached there and picked up the bag, he was arrested. Police said that it was Satish who them led them to Amit Kumar and Sunil Kumar.
