4 jailed for 10 yrs in dowry death case

A court in Bihar's Darbhanga district today convicted four members of a family to 10 years' imprisonment after finding them guilty in a dowry death case five years ago.

The Additional District and Sessions Judge Sudhakar Singh passed the order convicting Subhash Chandra Jha, his elder brother Hemchandra Jha and parents Venkatesh Jha and Shanti Devi after convicting them in the murder of Monika Devi for dowry.

Devi was married to Subhash Chandra Jha.

According to prosecution, Devi was burnt to death by her husband and others at their house in Haridwar village under Ghanshyampur police station area on July 5, 2009 after her family failed to meet their dowry demands.
 

The victim's sister had lodged an FIR naming her brother in-law and three other family members charging them with the murder of her sister for dowry.
