4 killed, 22 injured in accidents in Jammu region

Four persons were killed and 22 others injured in three different accidents in Doda, Ramban and Reasi districts of Jammu and Kashmir today.

The first incident took place in Doda in which 2 persons were killed and 5 others were seriously injured, when their vehicle plunged into a 150-feet deep gorge in the district.

The Tata Sumo jeep, which was on its way from Phagsoo village to Thathri in Doda district, skidded off the road and fell into the gorge near Jangalwarvillageat 8:15 AM, Police officials said.

"The driver perhaps lost control over the vehicle due to slippery road conditions on the slope near Jangalwar village on Thathri - Phagsoo road and the vehicle rolled down into the 150-feet-deep gorge," said Mohd Anwar Banday, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Thathri.
 

"Two persons including the driver of the vehicle were declared brought dead by the doctors and fiveseriously injured were shifted to Trauma HospitalThathrifrom where two of them were shifted to District Hospital Doda," he added.

The deceased havebeen identified as Ghulam Ali Malik (65), and Mohd. Ashraf Driver (32), the SDM added.

In the second incident, an army vehicle collided head-on with another vehicle coming from the opposite direction on Jammu-Srinagar highway at Chamalwas in Ramban district today, police said.

The accident claimed two lives while 5 otherswere injured, they said adding that the deceased have been identified as Manjeet Singh and Nisar Ahmed.

In another accident, a vehicle carrying army personnel skidded off the road and rolled down into a gorge at Karua in Katra belt of the district.

12 of them were injured, police said addingthe condition of one person was stated to be critical.
