4 killed, 3 injured as jeep rams behind parked truck

Four persons were killed and three others were injured when a speeding jeep hit a truck from behind at Mohanpur within the limits of Haringhata police station in Nadia today, the police said.

The jeep, which was coming from Kolkata, was bound for Habra Gandhipally in North 24 Parganas and there were seven passengers in it, the police said adding, while it was on the Kampa-Bongaon road, the speeding vehicle hit a truck parked along the road near the main gate of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya.

Police rushed to the spot and rushed all passengers to Haringhata Primary Health centre where three of them were declared dead on arrival and rest four were referred to Kalyani JNM Hospital, a senior officer said.
 

Another passenger died at JNM Hospital and the rest are under treatment.

All victims and injured were residents of Habra Gandhipally, the police said.

The victims were identified as Rajendra Prasad Dhar (36), Milan Paul (35), Jaga Ghosh (37) and Krishna Mondal (25), the officer said adding, Krishna died at Kalyani JNM Hospital.
