4 killed in fire cracker blasts in Odisha

Four persons, including two women and a 6-year-old girl, were killed in two fire cracker blasts in Odisha's Jagatsinghpur and Puri districts today, police said.

A woman and her daughter were killed when fire crackers stored in their house at Kuntia village in Jagatsinghpur district ahead of Diwali accidentally caught fire, Inspector in-charge of Balikuda police station, Balram Biswal said.

The house was severely damaged under the impact of the explosion, he said, adding, the charred bodies of the two were recovered.

Other members of the family survived as they were away when the blast took place, police said.

In the other incident in Puri, a woman and a teenager were killed in a similar blast that occurred in a house at Nandikera village, said additional superintendent of police B B Sahu.
 

The blast at Nandikera took place when a youth of a nearby village was buying fire crackers from the woman houseowner and both were killed, police added.
