4 killed in rain-related incidents in UP

Four people were killed in rain- related incidents in Uttar Pradesh as light to moderate rains and thundershowers occurred at a few places in the state.

In Gonda, a 10-year-old boy, Puttan Lal, and his sister, Laxmi (12), were killed when a wall of their house collapsed on them this morning in Bangaon village under Katra Bazar police station area following continuous rainfall, police said.

In a similar incident in Jaunpur's Mahrauda village under Khatasarai police station area, Ram Avadh Bind (35) and his two-year-old daughter Komal died after a portion of their house collapsed last night, police said.

Central Water Commission report said Sharda and Ghaghra rivers were still flowing above the danger mark at Palia Kalan, Elgin Bridge, Ayodhya and Turtipar.
 

The Met office said south-west monsoon continued to be normal in the state and the amount of rainfall recorded in Aonla was 16 cms, in Bikapur 13 cms, Ayodhya and Baheri 9 cms each, Bareilly 8 cms, Bahraich, Musafirkhana, Najibabad and Moradabad 7 cms each, Ghazipur, Nagina and Rampur 6 cms each.

In its forecast for tomorrow, the weather department has predicted rains and thundershowers as "very likely" at many places over east UP and at a few places over the western part of the state.

They warned that heavy to very heavy rain is very likely at isolated places over the state.
