Four labourers were killed after the ropes of a makeshift lift carrying them snapped at a construction site at Banawali here, police said today.
The incident took place when the labourers were working at a height of 250 feet in Talwandi Sabo Power Plant and the ropes of the lift suddenly snapped this afternoon, they said.
Two of the deceased were identified as Dinesh Chaurasia, (30) and Parkash Kumar (24), both residents of Uttar Pradesh, while other two were identified as Dinesh Parjapati (23) of Rajasthan and Gurdeep Singh (23), a local resident.
"A compensation of Rs 18 lakh each has been announced to the kin of victims. The incident was unfortunate and we are inquiring into the matter", said spokesperson, L&T.
