Four militants were killed today in exchange of fire after they attacked a senior police officer outside his house here.

The convey of SSP Rao Anwar, who has been at the forefront of operations against terrorists, came under attack outside his home in Malir Cantt, but the officer escaped unhurt.

"We were going from my house when four men in a car and on a motorcycle conducting reconnaissance in the area made me suspicious," Rao said.

"These men when confronted opened fire but in the retaliatory firing were killed," he said, adding that the policemen in the convoy remained unhurt.

While the two men in the car were killed immediately, the two on a motorcycle were killed after in an encounter.

Militants of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan had also attacked Rao in May this year but he managed to escape unhurt while five of the assailants were killed.

Earlier in 2012, a suicide bomber had also attacked him when he was on his way to court.
