4 minor girls drown in pond in Rajasthan

Four girls, all below 11 years of age, drowned in a pond where they had gone for a bath in Khanda Sarol village here.

The incident occurred last evening when one of the girls started drowning and the other three tried to save her, Station House officer (SHO), Shahabad, Syad Mohammed Husain said today.

"The girls had gone for a bath in the village pond last evening at around 4.30 PM but did not return home till late evening. When searched, their garments were found near the pond," the SHO said.

The bodies of the girls, identified as Asha (10), her sister Anjana (8), Rani (8) and Sapna (8), all residents of Khanda Sarol village, were fished out late last evening with the help of locals, he said.
 

The bodies were handed over to the inconsolable families this morning after a postmortem.

A case under Section 174 of Cr.PC (unnatural death) has been lodged in the matter, the SHO said.
