4 minors killed in lightning strike; rains lash Nashik

Four minors were killed after they were struck by lightning in separate incidents in Nashik district and adjoining areas which were lashed by unseasonal rains and hailstorm, officials said today.

As per district administration officials, Nandgaon tehsil received 5mm of rains and Malegaon, 2 mm of rains, till yesterday morning. Many areas received light rains in the evening hours, officials said.

Four minors lost their lives in separate incidents yesterday as lightning struck many areas, police said.

14-year-old boy Shaikh Irfan Shaikh Feroz, a resident of Malegaon tehsil, was killed as lightning struck, while 12-year-old boy Shaikh Abujar Shaikh Hasan also died in a similar incident, Additional SP Sunil Kadasane said.
 

17-year-old girl Sheetal Ashok Halde was killed by lightning at Manur village in Kalwan tehsil, police said.

17-year-old girl Pramila Mohan Talware died as lightning struck at Devpur village in Dindori tehsil, police said.

Crops like wheat, pulses, gram, onions, pomegranate and grapes have been damaged at various places, and the damage would be estimated soon, the officials said.

Heavy rains and hailstorms did not spare Mangi Tungi foothills, where the grand ceremony of 'mahamastakabhishek' of 108-feet tall idol of Vrishabh Dev was interrupted due to water-logging in the pandal.

Heavy rains and hailstorms were reported in Niphad, Baglan, Malegaon, Kalwan, Dindori and Igatpuri tehsils of the district, officials said.

Ojhar town, about 20 km from Nashik city, Nashik Road and Deolali Camp areas also witnessed heavy rains last evening, resulting in water-logging in many localities.

A number of cattle were also reported to have died in the rains.

Power supply was also affected.
