Four members of a family were charred to death today in a fire in Surajichak village under Suryagaha police station area in Bihar's Lakhisarai district, police said.
The fire broke out at one Umesh Chaudhary's hut and then spread to the neighbouring houses before fatally trapping his wife and three children inside, SDPO Manoj Kumar Tiwari said.
The deceased were identified as Chaudhary's wife Sudha (32), his two sons Sudhir (14) and Shankar Kumar (10) and daughter Krishna Kumar (12), he said.
As many as 25 thatched houses were gutted in the fire which was brought under control by locals with the help of three fire extinguishers, Tiwari said.
