Four members of a family were killed allegedly after some persons threw acid on them in Jharna Tola area here, police said.

Police said the house of a CRPF havaldar, who is posted in Chattisgarh, was locked up since two days. After neighbours complained of a foul smell emanating from the house under Shahpur police station here, the bodies of the four persons were recovered, police said.

The deceased, who are family members of the CRPF havaldar, have been identified as Rajiya Devi (35), her son Anup (15) and daughters Poonam (16) and Rubi (12), police said, adding that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem.

Though the cause of the crime was not immediately known, police suspect that the four were killed by throwing acid.
