A 38-year-old man died while his wife and two children were in a serious condition after all of them allegedly tried to commit suicide by consuming poison at Khurja town here, police said today.
Arun Tayal, a grain merchant, consumed poison with his wife Anjali (28)and two sons Ankit (11) and Shivam (8) last night after being harassed by a creditor.
While Arun died, Anjali and the boys are battling for life at the government hospital here.
The deceased had taken a loan of Rs 17 lakh from Deepak Solanki two years ago and paid a sum of Rs 25 lakh to him. Still, the creditor presented a due of Rs 17 lakh, SSP Anant Dev Tiwari said.
Last night, Solanki, a former block chief of district board here, accompanied by two other persons, arrived at Arun's house. Solanki threatened him to pay the dues by this morning or face grave results, the SSP said.
Arun along with his family then consumed poison.
Police have lodged an FIR against Deepak Solanki and his brother Sunil Solanki under section 306 of the IPC at Khurja Kotwali.
Both the accused are absconding, the SSP said.
