4 of marriage party killed, 6 hurt as van overturns

Four persons, including two minor boys, were killed and six others injured when a van carrying members of a marriage party overturned in Chhattisgarh's Mungeli district, police said today.

Nearly 20 people of Tarai village in the district had gone to Sonpuri village in the van for a marriage ceremony.

While they were returning, the vehicle's driver lost control over the wheels following which the van overturned and skid off the road late last night near Jagtakapa village, around 120 km from here, a police official told PTI.

A police team rushed to the spot on getting information about the mishap.
 

They sent the four bodies for postmortem and took the six injured persons to a nearby hospital, he said.

However, the injured persons were later referred to a hospital in Bilaspur for better treatment.

Those killed in the mishap were identified as Gendlal Sahu (23), Golu Yadav (14), Manjhla Sahu (16) and Suresh Sonkar (26), he said.

A case has been registered in connection with the accident, he added.
