Four policemen have been arrested for allegedly keeping five youths in illegal custody and torturing them in Mansoorpur police station here, a senior official said today.

A case has been registered against SHO Mansoorpur police station Pankaj Tyagi and constables Jitender, Arjun and Shelender for keeping the youths in illegal custody and torturing them, SSP Manzil Saini said.

The SHO's servant Waseem was also arrested for beating the youths while they were in the police custody, Saini said.

The five youths who were allegedly tortured -- Sandeep Saini, Bitoo, Sachin, Sanju and Ritesh -- were reportedly picked up from their residences in a false theft case.

The youths were later released after the accused policemen allegedly took money from them.

Local people yesterday protested against the arrest of the five youths following which the action was taken against the errant officials.
