4 sentenced to life for kidnapping man for ransom

A fast track court today sentenced four persons to life imprisonment for kidnapping a man for Rs 5 lakh ransom in 1997.

Judge Manoj Kumar Mishra also imposed Rs 50,000 fine each on Jaivir, Jasvir, Parmod and Jaber Singh after holding them guilty under sections 364A (kidnapping for ransom) and 368 (wrongfully concealing or keeping in confinement a kidnapped person) of the IPC.

The court has acquitted four others in the case due to lack of evidence, the prosecution said.

Rajesh Veer Sharma was kidnapped by 12 people near Dhaneda village on September 29, 1997, and they demanded a ransom of Rs 5 lakh. He was later rescued.
 

Four of the accused died during pendency of the case, the prosecution said.
