4 smugglers arrested in UP

Four members of an inter-state gang of narcotics smugglers, including one who is a local Samajwadi Party leader, were arrested alongwith 10 kgs of opium here, police said today.

On a tip off, a luxury car on its way to Punjab was checked and 10 kg opium worth Rs. 1 crore was recovered after which four persons including the local Faridpur Samajwadi Party minorities cell president, Azim Mulla were arrested, DIG, Bareilly range, RKS Rathore said.

The gang was active in Haryana, West Bengal, Bihar and Punjab and police had been getting reports about their activities from past some time, Rathore said.
 

A case has been registered and the arrested persons are being interrogated, the DIG added.
