4 surrender in connection with murder of former Agri Minister

Four persons, allegedly involved in the January 3 murder of former Puducherry Agriculture Minister V M C Sivakumar at Neravy near Karaikal, surrendered before a local court today.

The four men -- Prabhu, Suryaprakash, Karthik and Shanmugham -- all hailing from Tiruchirapalli, surrendered before I Dayalan, Judicial Magistrate-1 here today, police said.

The magistrate remanded the four to judicial custody at the Central prison here and directed police to produce them before the jurisdictional court in Karaikal.

Earlier representatives of Puducherry Bar Association informed the court that they hadadopted a resolution, stating that none of its members would appear for the accused.
 

Sivakumarwas hacked to death by a gang during a visit to a marriage hall owned by him at Neravy on January 3.

He was a four time legislator and had held the post of Agriculture Minister and also Speaker.

He unsuccessfully sought to retain the Neravy seat as AIADMK nominee in the May 2016 Assembly polls.

Last week, two persons had surrendered before a court in Karur in Tamil Nadu in connection with the murder.

However, the magistrate had refused to accept the surrender on the ground that the case came under the jurisdiction of a different state.
